Unfortunately, the procedure is not as simple as most people believe. Each country has its own set of restrictions, requiring separate proof to prove that your pet is healthy and vaccinated. Obtaining the proper papers can be difficult and time-consuming – in certain situations, it might take up to six months!

Traveling with pets to a foreign country is a complicated process – every country has different requirements for the import of pets, some of which may need to be taken care of months in advance.
Depending on the destination, international pet travel requirements may include, but not be limited to:
- Microchipping of pet PRIOR to any other vaccines or treatments required
- One or more Rabies or other vaccines are given after the microchip at a specific time prior to travel
- Lab testing to prove immunity levels are sufficient at specific timing before travel. Please check the requirements for the country you are traveling to: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel
- Lab testing to prove negative parasite status at specific timing before travel
- Treatment for parasites at specific timing before travel (regardless of infection status)
Most nations then demand a checkup right before departure, usually within ten days before your journey. We will submit the relevant documentation to the USDA for approval at this meeting. The USDA will then transmit your authorized International Health Certificate and any supporting paperwork to you to accompany your pet during travel.
