Pet Acupuncture

Although it is often known for its use on humans, acupuncture has been used on animals for thousands of years.

Acupuncture entails inserting unique acupuncture needles into precise locations on the body to elicit a healing response. We utilize acupuncture alone or in conjunction with standard Western medicine to treat various diseases in all animal species.

Pet Acupuncture

Acupuncture is inserting needles beneath the skin at specific locations to elicit a particular physiologic (or natural) response. It can help to alter pain signaling, improve musculoskeletal function, reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and stimulate nerves or glands. We mainly use it for older patients with arthritis or neurological difficulty (but it can be used for other things as well). Acupuncture is performed with thin, sterilized, disposable needles. Occasionally a brief moment of sensitivity may be observed as the hand passes through the skin in susceptible areas. Most pets learn to relax during treatments, and some even fall asleep!

Treatments may last from 30 seconds to 60 minutes, depending on the therapy employed and the condition being treated. Treatments are often performed weekly or biweekly for 4-6 weeks and can often be reduced in frequency depending on your pet’s response. A response can be seen within the first 3-5 treatments depending on the condition treated. If you are interested in this service, please call to set up a consultation with Dr. Manse.
