It is with heavy hearts that we share with you a great loss to the Andover Animal Hospital family. Dr. Richard Lindsay, our founder, has passed away at the age of 88.

Dr. Lindsay was a devoted family man and husband to his beloved wife, Betty. He dedicated his life to helping animals and was passionate about giving back to the community. His generosity of spirit and love of teaching made him a mentor to all who were fortunate enough to work with him.

We will celebrate Dr. Lindsay’s life by continuing his mission of exemplary veterinary care, customer service, and community involvement.

Dr. Richard D. Lindsay, D.V.M., age 88, of Andover, MA, son of Stafford Andrew Lindsay and Edith (Fowler) Lindsay, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Dr. Lindsay was born and raised in Andover.

Following graduation from Phillips Academy Andover in 1948, he attended Michigan State University, where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine before serving as First Lieutenant and Food Inspector for the US Army Hospital at Governor’s Island, NY. In 1958, Dr. Lindsay established the Andover Animal Hospital, where he and his family have served the Merrimack Valley community for more than 60 years.

A self-starter with a boundless work ethic, Dr. Lindsay spent a lifetime caring for patients, clients, and his family. In the early years of his practice, he accepted client calls twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and often brought his children, David and Diane, on house calls to care for local farmers’ livestock. His infectious passion for people and animals led David to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine and Diane to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager and own and operate the family business. From the simple kindness of helping a fellow veteran and his dog named Shadow, Dr. Lindsay partnered with the Massachusetts School of Law to establish the Shadow Fund to offer services to those who cannot pay for their animal’s medical costs. For fifty-five years, Dr. Lindsay acted as the Andover Animal Inspector, and during that same time, he fought for laws for the humane treatment of animals in the legislative committee of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. He later served as President of both Massachusetts and New England Veterinary Medical Associations and helped establish the Tufts Veterinary School to develop local talent. In recognition of his service to the veterinary profession, Dr. Lindsay was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award by the Massachusetts Veterinary Association.

Dr. Lindsay’s legacy extended beyond veterinary services to his generosity in the community and the active support of many local organizations. He served on the Board of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, as Chairman for the Greater Lawrence Area United Way, as Trustee of both Community Savings Bank and Andover Bank, and as President of the Holy Family Hospital’s Men’s Guild. Dr. Lindsay was an active Board member of the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club, and his key interest was investing in the long-term college success of club members through his scholarship program. The Yankee Clipper Council of Boy Scouts of America recognized Dr. Lindsay’s community contributions with the Distinguished Citizen Award in 2000. After years of strong support for Phillips Academy Andover as a Fundraising Volunteer, National Chair of the Parents Fund, Grandparent Society member, and co-Chair of the Grandparent Fund, the school recognized Dr. Lindsay with the Andover Distinguished Service Award in 2005. The Friends of Merrimack College recognized Dr. Lindsay as “Friend of the Year” that same year for his work as a board member. The Exchange Club of Lawrence awarded Dr. Lindsay with the Book of Golden Deeds in 2013, and that same year the Rotary Club of Andover awarded him with the Citizens Who Care Award for his lifetime of outstanding community work. In 2016 Ironstone Farm recognized Dr. Lindsay’s impact on the advisory board by recognizing him as the Father of their Sponsor a Child program that continues to enable donors to give children access to life-changing horse therapy.

Dr. Lindsay is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Lindsay, to whom he was married for 66 years, son Dr. R. David Lindsay, Jr., D.V.M. and his wife, Dr. Martha Lindsay, D.V.M., daughter Diane Lindsay Tower and her husband, Dr. Paul Tower, M.D., grandchildren Dr. Sarah Lindsay Carreira, M.D., Douglas Lindsay Tower, Christine Lindsay Harshbarger, Carolyn Lindsay Tower Venuti and their spouses, seven great-grandchildren, and many who were touched by his care and generosity as veterinarian and philanthropist.

Brennah Gambino, DVM

Dr. Brennah Gambino grew up in Santa Cruz, California. She received her BA in political science from Boston University and completed her veterinary education at University of California at Davis. After practicing small animal medicine in Reno, Nevada, she returns to the Boston area with her husband, Alex, and their two children, Madeline and Emerson, their tuxedo cat, Juniper, and Irish terrier, Harrison.

Dr. Gambino is passionate about preventative medicine, neurology, geriatric care and managing chronic illness and pain. She is certified in veterinary acupuncture and has been practicing an integrative approach to medicine for several years. Dr. Gambino loves to bring alternative therapies to her Western practice to provide a unique treatment plan for each pet.

Dr. Gambino is excited to have returned to the Boston area and is looking forward to exploring the area more with her family. When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, she is hiking, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. She is also constantly looking for ways to DIY her home with her husband.

Hamilton Lincoln III, VMD

Dr. Lincoln grew up in central Massachusetts. He attended the University of Massachusetts, receiving a BS in zoology. After working in research for a few years, he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1998. He has a special interest in medicine and surgery of avian and exotic species. He joined us in January 2001. He lives in New Hampshire with his wife and three sons. For pets, he currently has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, three cats, and two guinea pigs.

Jasmin Keramaty, DVM

DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Jasmin Keramaty joined the Andover Animal Hospital team in 2003 after graduating from the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, Jasmin received her BA in Biology from Skidmore College and spent several years as a research assistant working with birds in Alaska, San Francisco, and Australia.

Dr. Keramaty has a special interest in preventative medicine, surgery, dentistry, and behavior. She particularly enjoys working with owners to help them optimize the health and quality of life of their animal companions.

Jasmin and her husband, Paul, have two sons, Owen and Callum, and 2 adorable black cats, T’challa and Ororo. A dog will be joining their family in the near future. When she is not at work, Jasmin enjoys running, learning about health and personal finance, and finding new vegan recipes to cook for her family and friends.

Sarah Levine, VMD

Dr. Levine joins us from Pennsylvania. She got her BS from the University of Delaware and then went to Vet school at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, she moved up to Massachusetts and currently lives with her husband and their lab cross, Watson.

Cheryl Faso, DVM

DVM

Dr. Cheryl Faso joined our practice in July 2018. She was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, and attended the University of Guelph, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. After following her passion for veterinary medicine as an overnight ER technician, Dr. Faso continued her journey to become a veterinarian. She received her DVM at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. Following graduation, Dr. Faso completed an internship at the Ontario Veterinary College. Now Dr. Faso resides in Massachusetts and lives with her partner and their pets. She enjoys hockey, hiking, and reading in her spare time.

Max Manse, DVM

Dr. Max Manse was born in Newton, Massachusetts, and spent the majority of his life growing up in Wellesley. After high school, he went on to study Pre-Veterinary Medicine at the University of Delaware and then moved across the country to attend the University of California, Davis, for veterinary school. He always felt that New England was home, and even sunny California could not keep him away.

Dr. Manse has a variety of interests, including surgery, acupuncture, and business management. He recently completed his certification in acupuncture and hopes to integrate his skills into our hospital, providing owners and patients with an alternative treatment compared to the traditional methods. He will see and treat any animal that comes through the door. Make sure to give him a warm welcome next time you come by!

When not at work, Dr. Manse enjoys playing & watching soccer, landscaping & working in his garden, and cooking. Together, he and his wife have a Doberman named Dash and two cats, Darius & Nico. Fun fact about Dr. Manse, even though he was born and raised in Massachusetts, his family is from Sweden!

Chris Autieri, VMD

Dr. Autieri graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA. He has worked in small animal practices in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and worked as a research fellow at the Division of Comparative Medicine at MIT. Outside of work, Dr. Autieri enjoys spending his time in the great outdoors, camping, kayaking, and hiking and is an avid woodsman.

Mechela Carnevale, DVM

DVM

Dr. Carnevale grew up in Bucks County, just outside of Philadelphia, in a large Italian family. She received her B.S. in Biology from Saint Joseph’s University before attending Tufts Veterinary School. On her way to earning her doctorate, she worked as a technician while in college and vet school and in a biodiversity lab, tending to aquatic turtles and fish while in college.

Dr. Carnevale loves working with all animals, including our avian and exotic species, however, she is especially passionate about the health and welfare of brachycephalic (squish-faced) pets like pugs, Frenchies, and Persian cats. She also has a special interest in exotic pets, surgery, and geriatric pet care.

When not working, she enjoys cooking, going to the gym, biking, cheering on her Philly sports teams, and spending time with family and friends.
